About Lisa S. Gardiner
Lisa S. Gardiner is an educator, scientist, and author of the award-winning Tales from an Uncertain World: What Other Assorted Disasters Can Teach Us About Climate Change. She is currently working on a second narrative nonfiction book about coral reefs with Princeton University Press.
Her writing aims to take curious readers on adventures in the natural world to learn more about how our planet works, the living things with whom we share the world, and how our actions affect climate, oceans, and ecosystems. Before she was telling stories of science, Lisa researched fossil coral reef ecology. She holds a PhD in geoscience (with a focus on paleoecology) from the University of Georgia, an MFA in creative nonfiction from Goucher College, and an BA in geology and marine science from Smith College. Her writing has appeared in Scientific American, Inside Energy, Science Friday, SciStarter, The Toast, The Colorado Sun, Dig Magazine, and the documentary Saving My Tomorrow. She is also a visual science communicator and has developed science graphics for museum exhibits, websites, children's books, and comics. When she’s not writing, Lisa creates learning resources like curriculum and museum exhibits at the UCAR Center for Science Education and teaches workshops for science educators. |
